Onboard Elite-Mat Decoupling Matting Roll 1x30m – 30m²
Elite-Mat Decoupling Matting is a lightweight, mesh-backed membrane designed to reduce stress transfer between unstable substrates and tiled floors. Supplied as a 1m x 30m roll covering 30m², it is suitable for renovation projects, cracked concrete, timber floors and underfloor heating systems.
Protect tiled floors against substrate movement with the Onboard Elite-Mat Decoupling Matting Roll 1x30m.
This professional decoupling membrane is designed to create a separation layer between the supporting substrate and the finished tile installation. By reducing the direct transfer of movement and stress, it helps lower the risk of cracks in the substrate travelling through to newly installed ceramic or porcelain tiles.
Elite-Mat incorporates an integrated reinforced mesh backing, designed to improve tensile strength, adhesive bonding and overall installation stability. Its dimpled surface profile helps distribute loads while reducing unnecessary adhesive consumption during fitting.
Built-in air channels support moisture evaporation beneath the membrane, making the product particularly useful over suitable mineral substrates, slightly damp bases and anhydrite screeds, subject to correct preparation and installation requirements.
The membrane can be used when tiling over old or damaged floors where removal of the entire existing surface may be impractical. It is also compatible with suitable timber substrates, cracked concrete bases and underfloor heating installations.
Supplied as a practical 1 metre wide by 30 metre long roll, each roll provides approximately 30m² of coverage before allowing for cuts, overlaps and installation waste.

What Is Decoupling Matting?
Decoupling matting is installed between a floor substrate and the tiled surface. Its purpose is to reduce the direct transfer of movement, shrinkage and minor cracking from the base into the tile installation.
Without a suitable separation layer, movement in concrete, screed or timber substrates may place stress on tiles and grout joints. A decoupling membrane helps absorb and distribute this movement, supporting a more reliable tiled finish.
It does not repair a structurally unstable floor. Major cracks, excessive movement, moisture problems and damaged substrates must be professionally assessed and repaired before installation.
Best Uses
The Onboard Elite-Mat decoupling membrane is suitable for:
- Porcelain floor-tile installations
- Ceramic floor-tile installations
- Bathroom floors
- Kitchen floors
- Hallways and entrance areas
- Living-room floors
- Open-plan tiled spaces
- Renovation and refurbishment projects
- Suitable timber floor substrates
- Old tiled floors, following correct assessment
- Cracked concrete bases, following appropriate repair
- Cement screeds
- Compatible anhydrite screeds
- Underfloor heating installations
- Residential tiled flooring
- Light commercial floor installations
Suitable Substrates
Subject to proper preparation and manufacturer guidance, Elite-Mat may be used over:
- Concrete floors
- Cement-based screeds
- Anhydrite or calcium-sulphate screeds
- Suitable timber substrates
- Existing sound tiled surfaces
- Old or damaged mineral floors
- Heated screeds
- Slightly damp compatible mineral substrates
The substrate must remain structurally sound, stable, adequately supported and suitable to receive a bonded tile system.
Underfloor Heating Compatibility
Onboard Elite-Mat is suitable for use with compatible underfloor heating systems.
The membrane helps manage differential movement created as the floor heats and cools. This can reduce stress between the heated substrate and the tiled finish.
Before installation:
- Confirm the heating system is suitable for tiled floors
- Follow the heating manufacturer’s commissioning procedure
- Ensure the screed has cured correctly
- Switch the heating off during installation as required
- Use a flexible adhesive approved for underfloor heating
- Increase the temperature gradually after the system has cured
- Follow all membrane, adhesive and grout instructions
